Penn State Arboretum Outdoor Art Exhibition Open Call

Pennsylvania artists sought for outdoor exhibition celebrating forests. Submit proposals by Feb 28. $1,000 award upon completion.

The Penn State Arboretum is launching an open call for Pennsylvania-based artists to submit proposals for 'The Penn's Woods Outdoor Art Exhibition,' a new outdoor art exhibition celebrating the history, ecology, and artistry of Pennsylvania's forests. This exhibition will run from June through August 2026 throughout the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens at Penn State University and will feature 10 selected works of art.

The Arboretum seeks works that explore the relationship between people, place, and the natural world, with wood serving as a central material or inspiration. The exhibition will be displayed in a public garden setting, underscoring the vital role of public horticulture in Pennsylvania's tourism, education, and economic growth.

Selected artists will receive a $1,000 payment upon successful conclusion of the exhibition and restoration of the artwork site. Artists of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to apply. Installations may be sculptural, architectural, or multi-component in nature, but must be designed for outdoor display in a public garden setting.

Proposals can be submitted through February 28, 2026, via the Arboretum website. Interested artists should review the full guidelines and restrictions on the Penn State Arboretum website or contact Rachel Duke, Public Program Manager, for specific details about requirements and restrictions.
