Performance Art Land Jeju 2026 Open Call

Create site-specific performance art in Jeju, Korea. One artist selected for residency, production support, and international exhibition at 5th Jeju Biennale.

Performance Art Land (PAL) Jeju 2026 invites contemporary artists to develop site-specific performance art projects on Jeju Island. This flagship initiative by International Visual Arts Exchange (IVAE) builds on the successful 2025 Wales edition and expands to Korea, supported by the 5th Jeju Biennale Team.

Selected artist will create a contemporary performance artwork exploring Jeju's unique cultural landscape, mythology, ecology, and spiritual heritage. The project theme aligns with the 5th Jeju Biennale's "Iyahong: The Art of Metamorphosis." Artists are encouraged to collaborate with local communities, residents, and professionals to develop meaningful work that bridges contemporary urgency with ancient cultural traditions.

Key focus areas include: Jeju's mythology and transformation; ecological systems and local legends; marginalized social groups within Jeju's cultural fabric; and intangible cultural heritage including folklore and spiritual beliefs.

Selected artist receives: GBP £1,000 artist fee; GBP £2,000 production costs; one-month residency accommodation for research and production; international exhibition opportunities including premiere at 5th Jeju Biennale (25 Aug - 15 Nov 2026) and further exhibitions in Asia and UK; curatorial support for production.

Timeline: Applications open March-April 2026; artist announcement by end of April; on-site research, production, and filming in May 2026; artwork editing June-July; film installation and testing late July; Biennale exhibition August-November 2026.

Open to independent Korean and international visual artists, artist collectives, and collaborative groups. Applications welcome in all formats but must be submitted in English.
