She Makes an Impression: Colorado Women Self-Portraits
Exhibition featuring 60+ Colorado women artists' self-portraits in various media. Open December 18, 2025 - January 11, 2026 at D'art Gallery in Denver.
The Colorado Women's Art Museum (CWAM) presents "She Makes an Impression: Colorado Women Take a Look at Themselves," a first-ever invitational exhibition of self-portraits created exclusively by Colorado woman-identifying artists. This unique exhibition showcases over sixty Colorado women artists exploring self-representation through diverse artistic styles and media.
The exhibition features representational, realistic, abstract, and non-representational works in multiple formats including painting, printmaking, ceramics, fiber, mosaic, photography, and sculpture. Artists were invited to submit self-portraits from any time in their lives that hold special meaning to them. The collection ranges from straightforward head-and-shoulder depictions to abstract vignettes expressing feelings and life experiences.
Curators Catherine V. Carilli, Kathleen J. Graves, and Carrie MaKenna have assembled works that explore diverse themes—from bright and playful pieces celebrating favorite moments to profound explorations of dark or painful experiences, challenges of modern womanhood, and abstract expressions of identity.
Since its inaugural exhibition in August 2023, CWAM has exhibited nearly 300 artists and maintains over 250 members while actively raising funds for a permanent home. Participating artists come from the northern, central, and southern front range, mountains, and western slope of Colorado.
The exhibition runs December 18, 2025 – January 11, 2026, at D'art Gallery, 900 Santa Fe Dr, Denver CO. Special events include opening and holiday party (Dec 18), Art Appreciators Night (Dec 19), Sundays on Santa Fe (Dec 28), First Friday (Jan 2), Artist Panel Discussion (Jan 3), and Black & White Closing Party (Jan 9).
