The South Carolina Arts Commission offers Emerging Artist Grants of up to $1,800 for individual artists in their first 1-5 years of practice in a specific discipline. This project-based grant supports creation or continuation of new work phases, with projects running July 1 through December 30, 2025. The program includes a comprehensive mentorship component featuring a cohort of up to seven artists, six monthly group meetings, five one-on-one sessions with the artist development director, and access to Creative Study professional development resources for 12 months total. Eligible applicants must be individual artists (not ensembles or students), U.S. and South Carolina legal residents living in the state for at least one year, and 18 years or older. Allowable expenses include supplies, materials, equipment, art-related furniture, and professional services like editors or collaborators. Personal living expenses, salary, or honorarium are not permitted. The grant operates on a reimbursement basis with 50% released upon contract signing, up to 40% available as interim drawdowns, and 10% held until final report submission.
