Sparks Historic Mural Design for America's 250th

City of Sparks seeks Nevada artists to design a historic mural celebrating the city's heritage for America's 250th birthday in 2026.

The City of Sparks is launching an open call for professional artists or artist teams to design and paint a historic mural that illustrates the history of Sparks in honor of America's 250th birthday celebration in 2026. This exciting public art project will be painted inside the city-owned, 250-seat outdoor amphitheater located in historic downtown Sparks. The mural is intended to highlight Sparks' historic downtown, celebrate the community's rich heritage, and educate both residents and visitors about the city's significant contribution to building the nation and the American West. The project is funded through a prestigious grant from Travel Nevada as part of the America 250 Initiative, which recognizes important cultural and historical projects across the state. The selected artist or artist team will receive $17,000 to cover all time and materials for the mural creation. Upon completion, the City of Sparks plans to unveil the finished mural during a major public celebration event featuring live music and guided tours of historic downtown Sparks, presented in partnership with the Sparks Heritage Museum. This represents a unique opportunity for Nevada-based artists to create a lasting public art piece that will serve as both a celebration of American heritage and a focal point for community engagement. According to Raquel Monserrat, special events supervisor for the City of Sparks, 'We are excited to celebrate America's 250th birthday through art and collaboration in 2026. This public art piece will reflect our historic downtown and the importance of the American West in building our country.'
