Summit Artspace BIPOC+ Exhibition Call
Summit Artspace invites BIPOC+ artists from Summit County to apply for a funded solo or small-group exhibition with $1,250 stipend.
Summit Artspace is issuing a call for Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC+) artists to apply for a funded exhibition in its Main Gallery, located on the first floor of Summit Artspace. This opportunity welcomes both solo exhibitions and small-group exhibitions of up to three artists. Selected artists will receive a total stipend of $1,250 to create and present their exhibition.
The organizational mission behind this exhibition is to actively undo systems of oppression and domination present in the art world. Summit Artspace is deeply interested in exploring the many ways BIPOC+ artists impact and transform their communities through their artwork.
The exhibition themes of focus include: exploring and advancing meaningful BIPOC+ narratives, recontextualizing traditionally white-dominated genres to give new meanings, restoring hope by envisioning a world where social justice has taken hold, building support for social change, equity and inclusion, exposing and denouncing injustices to marginalized communities, and investigating new ideas and genres to transform viewer perceptions.
All types of visual artists are welcome to apply. The application deadline is November 23, with acceptance notifications arriving December 12. Public announcement will occur in January, and the exhibition will run from April 2 to June 12. Jurors will be announced soon.
Eligible applicants must be Black, Indigenous or a person of color; must live in Summit County or surrounding counties; and must express an interest in making an impact through their artwork.
