Surrey Roundabout Public Art Commission
$150,000 budget for public art sculpture at Newton roundabout. Deadline passed January 19, 2026.
Surrey is seeking artists to create public art for a newly constructed roundabout at the intersection of 132 Street and 60 Avenue in Newton. This is a significant public art opportunity with a total budget of $150,000 covering all project costs including artist fees, design, materials, insurance, engineering, fabrication, delivery, installation, travel, and taxes.
The artwork should serve as a distinctive landmark while speaking to the area's natural heritage and local history. Newton is Surrey's most populous town centre with a large South Asian heritage population. The roundabout location is particularly significant as it sits where the Surrey Zoo once operated (1967-1977, run by the Galicz family). The site is in a highly residential area with two nearby parks and two elementary schools.
The roundabout foundation can support a significant free-standing sculpture. The project timeline includes selection panel review in late January, shortlisting in February, concept development in April, design work during summer, and installation in winter 2026-2027.
Note: The submission deadline for expressions of interest was January 19, 2026, which has already passed. However, interested artists may contact Surrey for information about future public art calls or similar opportunities.
