Tarpon Springs Public Art Projects - Murals & Photography
Tarpon Springs seeks artists for storm drain murals ($200) and Sponge Docks photography displays ($100). Open to all skill levels.
The City of Tarpon Springs Public Art Committee is seeking street painters and photographers for two public arts projects open to artists of all skill levels. The first project invites artists to create storm drain murals at five locations throughout the city, with an honorarium of $200 per location. The project aims to raise awareness about stormwater pollution and educate the community about environmental protection. All murals must incorporate the slogan 'Only Rain Down the Drain' and focus on environmental awareness. The project is open to artists of all ages, including clubs, groups, and middle or high school students. Painting kits with primary colors, brushes, rollers, and protective gear will be provided at each location. Animals and plants depicted must be native species found in Tampa Bay or the Anclote River/Gulf watersheds. The second project seeks photographers to display work in illuminated art boxes at the Sponge Docks, with a $100 honorarium for each selected artwork. Forty spaces are available in 20 double-sided illuminated solar-powered art boxes. The theme is 'Celebrating Tarpon Springs and Our Nature Coast,' with preference given to recognizable local locations, nature scenes, and abstract works capturing the area's essence. Photography of artworks in other media is also acceptable. Each display is 24 inches square, and chosen artworks will be exhibited for one year in an online catalog.
