USNA Band Call for Scores 2025 - Woodwind Quartet

Submit original woodwind quartet compositions for performance and recording by the U.S. Naval Academy Band. $1,000 prize for winner.

The U.S. Naval Academy Band is accepting woodwind quartet compositions for their 2025 Call for Scores competition, featuring the newly established Charles A. Zimmermann Prize in Composition. The winning composer will receive $1,000 from the Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation, with up to three selected works performed in concert and professionally recorded in 2026. The competition seeks original works up to 15 minutes in duration for wind quartet instrumentation: flute, B-flat clarinet, bassoon, and French horn. All musical styles are welcomed, with special consideration for works honoring the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Navy (2025) and the United States (2026). Composers must submit a PDF score and parts, plus an MP3 recording via email by November 30, 2025. The U.S. Naval Academy Band, formed in 1852 and known as 'The Navy's Oldest and Finest Band,' will provide performance opportunities and social media release for selected compositions. Current military musicians are not eligible, but composers of all other backgrounds and ages are encouraged to apply.
