Visions and Voices: A Creative Art Exchange
Vancouver Community Library seeks creative writers and visual artists for interactive exhibit where artists respond to each other's work.
The Vancouver Community Library invites creative writers and visual artists to submit original works to "Visions and Voices: A Creative Art Exchange," an innovative interactive exhibit where artists and writers respond to work by other artists and writers. This unique collaborative experience creates a dynamic dialogue between creative minds.
The exhibit will be on display from July 1 through the end of August 2026, featuring work displayed on the first, fourth, and fifth floors of the Vancouver Community Library. The exhibition will conclude with a reception from 3-5 p.m. on August 22, providing an opportunity for participants and the community to celebrate the collaborative works.
Participants in this exchange will be assigned an anonymous original work created by another artist or writer and then asked to create their own response to that work. This creates pairs of original and response pieces that will be displayed together throughout the exhibition.
The selection and exchange process will be conducted by a committee that evaluates submissions based on aesthetics, presentation, craftsmanship, medium, size, and appropriateness for viewing by all ages. This careful curation ensures a cohesive and accessible exhibition experience.
For visual artists, artwork must be two-dimensional and wired with a hanging system ready for display (no sawtooth hangers are permitted). Artists are responsible for delivery and retrieval of their artwork to and from the library.
Writers should submit their work electronically. Written pieces must fit on an 8.5-by-14-inch sheet of paper (legal size) to maintain consistency in the display format.
