About This Event

La Pena Cultural Center in Berkeley presents 'A Thousand Mothers Collecting the Bones: A Theater and Music Performance of Grief and Praise' on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. Through theater, poetry, storytelling and music, Phoenix Song and Monique Miyake share their journey of grief and healing after the loss of their seventeen-year-old son to suicide, directed by Vicki Dello Joio. The performance invites audiences into a shared space of witnessing, where one story can hold the stories of many. Phoenix Song, featured in San Francisco Magazine's Best of the Bay, plays music from around the world on didgeridoo, Native flute, buffalo drum, djembe, hand pan, jaw harp, esraj and vocals. A Q&A talkback follows, along with an artist reception of Monique's art prints. Ten percent of sales will be donated to the Trevor Project. Tickets are 25 dollars in advance, 35 dollars at the door.
