About This Event
Dataland, the world's first AI art museum founded by artist Refik Anadol and partner Efsun Erkilic, opens to the public after more than two and a half years of planning and construction. The 35,000-square-foot Gensler-designed museum is housed inside the Frank Gehry-designed Grand LA complex across from Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Its debut show, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, plays out across five galleries and uses the Large Nature Model, an open-source AI trained on data from the Smithsonian, London's Natural History Museum and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, to simulate alternate possible rainforests as 'digital sculptures' that respond to ecological data including birdsongs, plant life and weather.
