Affinities
About the Exhibition
'Affinities' brings together Nancy Agati, Nathan Pankratz and Kate VanVliet at Mount Airy Contemporary in Northwest Philadelphia. The exhibit opened May 22 and continues through July 2, showcasing three artists whose expansive practices include teaching, curating and community building. Visits are by appointment. Agati, a Mount Airy resident, works across sculpture, paper and installation, focusing on things that go unnoticed: the veins of a decaying leaf, light on a stream, cracks in broken glass. Pankratz, on the faculty at The Haverford School and a co-founder of Tiger Strikes Asteroid Gallery in Olde Kensington, studied painting in Rome and earned his MFA at the University of the Arts. VanVliet, a founder and co-director of BYO Printmaking Collaborative in Old City, studied sculpture and printmaking at Moore College of Art & Design and looks to feminism, surrealism and process-driven artists such as Eva Hesse and Kiki Smith. Mount Airy Contemporary is run by Andrea Wohl Keefe and Colleen Keefe, who have presented more than 170 artists in two-person and group exhibitions out of the carriage house behind their home.
