Chisel and Razor
About the Exhibition
Chisel and Razor is the summer exhibition at Tinworks, a nonprofit contemporary art space in Bozeman, Montana. It opened during a Juneteenth celebration that centered on art, inclusion, and community connection, and it fills several rooms with paintings, sculptural objects, and photographs. The show is dedicated in part to Edmonia Lewis, widely recognized as the first African American woman sculptor to gain international recognition. The exhibition was shaped by curator Melissa Ragain with curatorial assistant Questian Dovky, a Bozeman artist who works across many mediums. Ragain ties the show to two intertwined anniversaries, the emancipation marked by Juneteenth and the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, framing art as a connective tissue that lets people practice empathy and hope. The opening event concluded on June 19, 2026, but the exhibition remains on view through the summer at 719 North Ida Avenue, between East Cottonwood and East Aspen.
