About the Exhibition

Commemorating America 250 at the Kentucky Folk Art Center marks the United States' 250th anniversary with a show that blends historic works from the center's permanent collection with contemporary pieces reflecting patriotism, heritage, storytelling and regional identity. Wooden works, paintings and other media fill the downstairs exhibition space in Morehead, including a new wooden American flag by the noted Kentucky folk artist Minnie Adkins. Drawing on the work of regional, self-taught Kentucky artists, the exhibition builds a visual narrative that honors both American history and the living traditions of Appalachian folk art, highlighting the role Kentucky and Appalachia have played in the nation's story. It is on view through September 30, 2026 at the Kentucky Folk Art Center, 102 West First Street in Morehead.
