About the Exhibition

James Dye: The Void, the Wheel, and the Monster runs June 20 through September 20, 2026, at the Fitchburg Art Museum. The Worcester-based artist crafts extremely detailed India ink drawings, using a dip pen and brush, of monstrous creatures set within mythical stories. Drawing from history, mythology, religion, and psychology, Dye's peculiar worlds examine light and dark and the presence and absence of life. Working from primal imagery he describes as extracted from a shared subconscious, he seeks to discover his place in the world. Dye won first prize in the 89th Regional Exhibition of Art and Craft at the Fitchburg Art Museum last year.
