Joan Semmel: Continuities

Xavier Hufkens and Alexander Gray Associates present a dual-venue exhibition of recent paintings by the 93-year-old artist Joan Semmel. The show centers the aging female form through her self-portraits, rendered without apology or disguise in saturated hues and dynamic brushwork. Layering techniques from her earlier series allow multiple versions of the figure to coexist on a single canvas. Presented simultaneously in Brussels and New York, the exhibition treats the two locations as continuous rather than separate spaces.
