About the Exhibition

The Mandala Show brings together two high desert artists who make work from the natural world at MazAmar Art Pottery in Pioneertown, California. Julia Briest is a plant-based eco artist from Desert Hot Springs who builds intricate mandala designs from ethically sourced plant materials. Thomas Alban is a Joshua Tree clay sculptor whose new mandala series carves rhythmic designs and symbols into wall pieces. The show is staged in the outdoor art garden between the pottery showroom and the bouquet gallery at MazAmar. It is conceived as a longer run, with the artists adding new pieces through the summer as others sell. The opening, part of Pioneertown's Third Saturday Art Walk, included a meet and greet with Briest and Alban, a sound bath by Compassion Sound Healers, light refreshments, and a chakra tea sampling.
