Old Friends, New Paintings, Good Stories
About the Exhibition
Old Friends, New Paintings, Good Stories is a two-person exhibition by Mount Desert Island artists Gloria Avner and Pati Dority at Reel Pizza in Bar Harbor, Maine. Longtime island friends who each came to their professional art practices later in life, the two show distinct styles and color palettes side by side. Avner specializes in the ancient art of batik painting, using ink, wax and watercolor on delicate rice paper, and teaches the technique at ArtWavesMDI. Dority paints in acrylic on canvas and also makes pieces from found objects and natural materials. Both previously owned Maine businesses, Avner as a co-owner of the shop Aquarius Artifacts in Town Hill and Dority as co-owner of the Ellsworth print shop Pioneer Print, Ink. The exhibition opens June 20 and hangs through July 20, 2026, with a reception planned for early July.
