Our Flag in American Art (1935-2026)

Our Flag in American Art (1935-2026) opens June 19 at the Museum of Art DeLand in Florida, surveying how artists have used the American flag across nearly a century of work. The group exhibition runs through August 16. Among the selected works is United We Stand by Abraham Onkst, a 48-by-36-inch acrylic painting that layers overlapping marks and language over a flag template to represent the many beliefs and perspectives that coexist across the nation. Onkst, 25, is a Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania native and Penn State Altoona graduate whose graffiti-rooted, text-driven style has been compared to Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.
