Roots and Wings

The exhibition's title, "Roots and Wings," is inspired by a line often attributed to Goethe about children needing roots for stability and wings for independence. Bailey's fiber-based mixed media work begins with vintage children's clothing to establish the central idea of the earliest seeds of identity. Each narrative piece suggests how the arc of life is formed by chance encounter, family of origin, environment, time and unfolding events. Her work explores the influences fostering resilience — including nature, nurturing relationships and a sense of belonging.
