About the Exhibition

Selena Forever: Siempre Selena brings never-before-seen photographs of Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Perez to the Briscoe Western Art Museum in downtown San Antonio. The images, made between 1992 and 1994 by photographer John Dyer, capture the singer's rise to stardom during a pivotal period for Tejano music, including some frames shot in San Antonio itself. The exhibition gathers portraits and magazine covers, several shown together for the first time, that document Selena's style and presence in the years before her death in 1995 at age 23. More than three decades on, the show frames her as an enduring icon of Tejano and Mexican-American culture, from her red lipstick and hoop earrings to her continuing influence on a new generation. Selena Forever: Siempre Selena is on view now through January, and serves as a precursor to a larger Tejano legacy exhibition the museum plans to open later in the summer.
