Summertime Joy
About the Exhibition
The Hudson Art Gallery in Hudson, Wisconsin presents 'Summertime Joy,' a bright, colorful exhibit pairing Virginia Randolph Bueide's 'Passage' and 'Picnic' series with Carmen Duran's florals. The show is on view through July 17. Hudson Flower Shop staff contribute floral arrangements responding to the paintings as an informal third artist. Duran builds her flower paintings in layers, prepping the canvas, writing words, lyrics or a wish, then painting up from darkness toward light. Bueide, 88, began exhibiting in the 1960s and draws inspiration from her family's property on the Kinnickinnic River north of River Falls. Gallery owner Tom Adamson, who has known Bueide's family for decades, paired the two artists for their complementary palettes while keeping each voice distinct. The gallery, staffed by volunteers from the Phipps Visual Art Council, donates its net proceeds to the Phipps.
