The Health Museum Fatherhood Effect Exhibition

Open call for Houston artists to exhibit work exploring fatherhood themes. Two-dimensional art accepted. Exhibition runs August 2026-January 2027.

The Health Museum in Houston announces an open call for artists to participate in The Fatherhood Effect, a juried exhibition under the museum's Healing Arts Program. This exhibition explores the lived experience of fatherhood and celebrates both traditional and evolving roles of fathers through emotional, social, and cultural lenses.

The exhibition aims to challenge outdated stereotypes that define fathers solely as providers, instead emphasizing care, emotional connection, and shared responsibility as essential elements of fatherhood. From a public health perspective, the museum highlights how fathers actively engaged in caregiving positively affect their families and communities, including the educational progress of their children.

The Healing Arts Program was created in 2024 by Rose Tylinski, an artist and Healing Arts Manager, to explore connections between art and medicine through exhibitions.

Eligibility: All Houston artists age 18 and over of all skill levels and backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including caregivers, older adults, young or first-time fathers, and individuals with artistic, medical, educational, or community-based experience.

Submission Requirements: The museum accepts two-dimensional visual art media only, including painting, drawing, photography, digital art, and mixed media. Artworks must not exceed 36 inches in any dimension. Three-dimensional artworks will not be accepted.

At least 20 artworks will be selected for the exhibition, which opens in August 2026 and remains on view through January 2027.
