Bottom-Up: Performing Arts Development Call, Italy
Umbria's Bottom-Up supports emerging performing artists with residencies, creation funding and public presentations. Deadline June 22.
Bottom-Up is a project to support, accompany and develop new works, dedicated to emerging artists, informal collectives and companies working in the performing arts. Conceived by the Umbrian residencies C.U.R.A. (Centro Umbro Residenze Artistiche) and Residenza Home - Dance Gallery Perugia, in collaboration with Teatro Stabile dell'Umbria and Fontemaggiore Centro di Produzione Teatrale, it aims to consolidate new ways of coordinated work across the live performance sector and to accompany processes of creation.
The call unfolds in three phases. Phase 1 selects three projects by emerging solo artists, companies or informal collectives, at least one connected to dance, each guaranteed 10 to 20 days of creative residency at the Umbrian residency venues between mid-September and mid-December 2026, a workspace with basic technical equipment, mentoring, and economic support of 3,000 euros gross plus accommodation. The residency concludes with a single public sharing of the three selected projects. Phase 2 selects one project for development in the first half of 2027, assigning a contribution of 5,800 euros gross through a direct contract and ongoing tutoring. Phase 3 brings the selected project into the promoters' programming, with at least two public presentations by 2027, each carrying a fee between 1,650 and 2,200 euros gross.
There are no age limits. Only original, previously unpremiered proposals will be considered, and each artist or group may submit a single proposal. Participation is free. Applicants must complete the online form on the Il Sonar platform by midnight on June 22, 2026, including an artist biography, a project description, a full video of a previous work and a teaser or rehearsal recording of the proposed project. The three winners will be announced by September 1, 2026.
