Low-Tech Projection Lab Residency 2026

A 21-day funded residency in France for five European visual artists exploring analog projection and sustainable, low-tech visual creation.

Deadline: June 16, 2026

The Low-Tech Projection Lab is a 21-day international residency that brings together five visual artists from across Europe to explore analog projection, low-tech visual creation, and collaborative artistic experimentation. Running September 14 to October 4, 2026, the programme is hosted in partnership with the CROCOSMOS collective and culminates in a public presentation during the Visiophare Festival.

The residency is designed for artists interested in experimental visual practices, analog media, sustainable technologies, and collaborative creation. Through hands-on learning and collective research, participants investigate sustainable visual art practices using recycled technologies and experimental projection techniques. A key component involves building environmentally conscious projection devices, transforming recycled overhead projectors into LED projectors and learning low-tech hardware adaptation. Artists also explore liquid projection, hand-drawn projection methods, analog image manipulation, projection layering, low-tech mapping, and site-responsive visual interventions. The emphasis is on process-driven exploration rather than production-focused outcomes.

The call is open to visual artists aged 18 or older who are residents of a Creative Europe eligible country or territory, excluding France. Applicants must be available for the full residency period and comfortable working in English. Emerging, mid-career, established, and self-taught artists are all welcome, and no formal arts qualification is required. Artists who have been selected for another Culture Moves Europe residency project between 2025 and 2028 are not eligible.

Selected artists receive accommodation provided by CROCOSMOS throughout the residency, a daily allowance of 30 euros for food and local transport (630 euros total), and travel support of 400 euros for distances under 5,000 km or 800 euros above. Additional support is available for green travel, children, visas, and accessibility needs. Applications are reviewed for interest in experimental visual practices, openness to collaboration, and commitment to sustainable approaches. Successful applicants will be notified by June 22, 2026 at the latest.
