Teatro Castro Alves Main Stage Open Call

Bahia-based performing arts groups can apply to present on the main stage of the newly refurbished Teatro Castro Alves in Salvador, free of venue charges.

Deadline: July 7, 2026

The Teatro Castro Alves (TCA), the Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia (Funceb), the Bahia State Department of Culture (Secult-BA) and the Government of Bahia have launched an open call for the artistic occupation of the main hall of the Teatro Castro Alves, a special Test Operation edition for the New TCA. The unprecedented initiative will select productions from Bahia across multiple disciplines to perform on the complex's main stage from October 2026 through February 2027.

The call marks the return of Bahia's principal performance hall to local cultural production following the venue's refurbishment. Registration is free and must be completed exclusively through the Funceb website between June 16 and July 7, 2026. Productions across many languages may take part, including theater, music, dance, performance and hybrid forms, strengthening the diversity of Bahian artistic production and expanding the circulation of local work in one of the country's most important cultural venues.

The action is part of the reopening of the New TCA and offers a chance for artists, groups and cultural producers from Bahia to occupy the main stage free of venue charges. The complex will operate in a Test Operation format to validate its new stage, acoustic and engineering systems after reopening, turning operational checks into a showcase for Bahian cultural production.

Eligible applicants are legal entities or individual microentrepreneurs in the cultural sector, based in the state of Bahia and formally established for at least five years. A selection committee evaluates proposals on artistic relevance, technical feasibility within the theater's commissioning schedule, and the representativeness of the proposed disciplines.
