Wooster Square Alley Public Art Initiative
Main Street Wooster and the City of Wooster seek artists for three downtown public art projects, with budgets from 8,000 to 11,000 dollars. Deadline July 6, ...
Main Street Wooster, in partnership with the City of Wooster, has launched a call to artists for three public art projects that will help shape downtown Wooster's growing Arts District. The Square Alley Public Art Initiative seeks work that reflects the people, stories, history and character of Wooster while transforming public spaces into places for connection and creativity. Artists may apply for one, two or all three projects.
Project one is a landmark Arts District mural on the south facade of 146 West South Street, offering an expansive canvas and a signature visual landmark, with a budget of 11,000 dollars. Project two is a bold statement on the north facade of 231 South Market Street, along one of downtown's busiest corridors, with a budget of 8,000 dollars. Project three is a community-created street art experience in Square Alley, a collaborative project that requires community engagement, with a budget of 8,000 dollars. Artists are encouraged to draw on themes that emerged through public engagement, including local history, education, industry, sports, entertainment, institutions and natural resources.
The application deadline is July 6, 2026, with artist notifications on July 17 and additional rounds possible. The installation completion deadline is August 16, 2027. Applications will be evaluated by a panel representing Main Street Wooster, the Wayne Center for the Arts and the City of Wooster, and are subject to building owner approval.
