El Bastion Anniversary Exhibition: Emerging Artists Call, Puerto Rico
ACirc invites young visual artists up to age 35 to El Bastion's ninth anniversary group exhibition in Old San Juan.
For the first time, the ACirc Association is inviting young visual artists to take part in the traditional anniversary group exhibition of El Bastion, whose ninth edition opens September 5 in the historic cultural space of Old San Juan. The exhibition, which will remain open to the public for six weeks, seeks to gather work representative of the diversity and vitality of contemporary visual arts in Puerto Rico, serving as a visibility platform for new generations of artists up to 35 years of age.
The open call runs June 4 to 30 and accepts free-theme proposals, allowing participants to explore any conceptual, aesthetic or disciplinary approach. Work in traditional and contemporary plastic arts media is welcome, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, installation, object art, video art and textile art.
Proposals will be evaluated by a selection committee of recognized Puerto Rican artists Rafael Trelles, Ivonne Prats and Nick Quijano, together with ACirc artistic director Maite Rivera Carbonell, who will determine the final participants and the number of works in the show. The initiative is part of programming marking nine years of El Bastion as a cultural center and meeting space for the arts in Puerto Rico.
