LHUCA Open Call for 2027-2028 Exhibition Proposals

The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts in Lubbock seeks solo and group exhibition proposals in all media for its four galleries.

Deadline: September 13, 2026

The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA) in Lubbock, Texas has opened its annual call for exhibition proposals for the 2027-2028 season. Curators, artist groups and individual artists are invited to submit proposals for group or solo exhibitions in all media across the institution's four galleries: the Helen Devitt Jones Studio Gallery with exposed brick and skylights, the 700-square-foot John F. Lott Gallery, the Christine DeVitt Exhibition Hall with its 35-foot-high ceiling, and the 500-square-foot Martin McDonal Hall.

Applicants are encouraged to design their proposals with the qualities of each gallery in mind. Exhibitions selected for the season will go on view for two-month periods, each drawing around 5,000 attendees, including audiences during the popular downtown Lubbock First Friday Art Trail. Past LHUCA exhibitions have included solo shows by Lubbock sculptor Chad Plunket, Fort Worth photographer Kaylee Appleton and Denver sculptor AliAnn Rushing Attilio, along with group shows such as 'The Fall of Civilization,' juried by Denton artist Alicia Eggert.

Proposals should include images, an artist or curator statement, the requested gallery space and requested exhibition dates. Applicants will be notified of results by mid-October.
