Open Call: Teatro a la Gorra 2026, Maldonado

Maldonado’s pay-what-you-wish performing arts cycle invites theatre, circus, dance and music projects from artists of any nationality.

The Culture Department of the Intendencia de Maldonado, Uruguay, is inviting artists to submit projects for the 11th edition of Teatro a la Gorra, the pay-what-you-wish performing arts cycle organized by the Escuela de Arte Escénico de Maldonado (EMAE). The call is open to theatre, circus, dance and music projects from artists, managers, collectives and companies of any nationality and place of residence.

Teatro a la Gorra is a space where different disciplines converge, and over the years it has established itself in the region as a platform for promoting culture across the department of Maldonado and beyond. Managed by students and teachers of EMAE, an educational center run by the Maldonado Culture Department, the cycle aims to deepen access to culture, build new audiences, encourage integration with other arts-training centers nationwide, and spread the performing arts through institutional channels and local media.

Performances take place on Thursdays at 8 p.m. in the theatre of the Casa de la Cultura de Maldonado, a semicircular hall with capacity for 130 people, equipped with professional lighting and sound. Admission is free and pay-what-you-wish, so the public can make a voluntary contribution at the end of each performance. Of the total collected, 90 percent goes to the performance and the remaining 10 percent supports the production of the cycle.

Artists interested in joining the 2026 program should send their proposal by email with the subject line "Teatro a la Gorra 2026," including the contact person’s details and, as attachments, a dossier with a summary of the proposal, synopsis, and technical and artistic credits, plus a high-quality photograph suitable for promotional materials.
