Suncheon Artist Artwork Purchase and Lease Program
The Suncheon Cultural Foundation invites local professional artists to submit work for purchase or lease at the city's new government building.
The Suncheon Cultural Foundation has launched an open call for its Artist Artwork Purchase and Lease Program, funded by citizen donations, to bring local artists' work into the new Suncheon city government building in South Korea. The project aims to strengthen the self-sustaining capacity of Suncheon's cultural and artistic ecosystem and to expand opportunities for citizens to enjoy art in daily life. Because the fund is formed from citizen donations, the work returns to citizens' everyday spaces, creating a virtuous cycle, with works displayed in the indoor and outdoor spaces of the new building and other public facilities.
The call has two categories. For indoor wall display, the program will select 21 two-dimensional works (size 30 to 100) for purchase, plus one representative large-scale work (size 100 to 300). For activating outdoor spaces such as the rooftop garden, it will select about three durable three-dimensional sculptures or installations, each no more than 500 millimeters in length and width, leased for a total of three years.
Eligibility is open to professional artists registered as residents of Suncheon, or born in Suncheon or graduated from Suncheon-area schools, who have held at least one solo exhibition or taken part in five or more group exhibitions. Judging will consider artistic quality alongside how well work fits the building's spaces and remains accessible to all citizens.
