The Vienna Architecture Summer School (VAS2) has opened applications for its 2026 edition, running August 22 to 30 at SOHO Studios in Vienna. The self-organized school aims to provide an open learning space and prototypical infrastructure for exchanging knowledge in architecture beyond dominant institutions and mainstream discourses, bringing together local and international participants with young architects and established experts working in Vienna and beyond.
The nine-day, full-time program is built around diverse spatial approaches explored through design workshops, lectures, theory sessions, discussions, walks, site visits, performances and an exhibition. The 2026 edition takes place in the former laundry hall of the Sandleitenhof, the largest housing estate of the Red Vienna period, built between 1924 and 1929. The program features workshops on topics ranging from property relations and post-automotive landscapes to material un-presence and architecture writing, alongside public lectures, excursions, discussions and screenings.
The call is open to students, graduates and drop-outs in architecture and related disciplines willing to engage with space-related topics in a workshop setting. Workshops and lectures are held in English. The fee is 220 euros, including a welcome dinner, an excursion and workshop materials; participants organize and pay for their own travel and accommodation. Applicants complete the online form no later than July 26, 2026, though the call may close earlier if capacity is reached.
